| In São Francisco Valley, Northeast Brazil, humic substances have been used by growers in fertigated fruit crops, due to its improvements on soil conditions and in plant nutrient uptake, metabolism and growth, reported from different growing places and crops. Nevertheless, little information about plant response to humic substance usage for local soil, weather and cropping system conditions is known. Hence, the metabolic response of guava tree during the orchard establishment to fertigation with humic substances and its correlation to the weather conditions were evaluated in Petrolina, State of Pernambuco. | ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to obtain the equilibrium moisture content of grape (variety ‘Tannat’) pomace through desorption isotherms, to evaluate the drying kinetics, determine the coefficient of effective diffusivity and physico-chemically characterize the grape pomace and the product obtained after drying. The desorption isotherms were determined at 50, 60 and 70 ºC and the experimental data were fitted using the GAB model (Gugghenheim, Anderson and de Boer). | In summer 1979, the natural reproduction of oysters Crassostrea gigas Thunberg, in Marennes-Oleron basin, produced a large number of juveniles which was not the case in summer 1981. If one compares the evolution of the main constituents of the flesh, one can see that, at the beginning of August, before spawning the male oysters in 1981 contained 6,3% less proteins, 34,2% less lipids and 61,2% less glucids than those in 1979 and respectively 12,3%, 21,3% and 69,8% less as far as females are concerned. The energetic value of ash-free dry flesh of female oysters is nearly the same for the two years whereas for male oysters the value is slightly lower in 1981 than in 1979. | The goal of this study was to evaluate the effects of seasonal variations on energy metabolism in different tissues of the freshwater crayfish Parastacus brasiliensis (von Martens, 1869). Crayfish were collected monthly from January 2001 to January 2003 in São Francisco de Paula, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, in a stream and in a culture tank. Haemolymph samples were collected from each crayfish in the field with a syringe, by puncturing the membrane at the base of the chelipeds. | La boutargue est constituée par les ovaires salés et séchés des mulets à grosse tête (Mugil cephalus) et de la courbine (Argyrosomus regius) représente une ressource importante pour la région de Nouakchott et pour la Mauritanie. Pour déterminer la valeur énergétique dans les boutargues, nous avons effectué des dosages des protéines, des glucides, des lipides et des études analytiques des acides gras et des lipides. Les analyses ont révélé que la boutargue contient, par rapport aux autres éléments d’énergie, très peu de glucide : 3,29% dans la boutargue du mulet et 1,95% dans celle de la courbine. | Resistance training evokes myocardial adaptation; however, the effects of a single resistance exercise session on cardiac performance are poorly understood or investigated. This study aimed to investigate the effects of a single resistance exercise session on the myocardial contractility of spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHRs). Male 3-month-old SHRs were divided into two groups: control (Ct) and exercise (Ex). Control animals were submitted to sham exercise. | The aim of this study was to identify heparin-binding proteins (HBPs) in seminal plasma of Nellore (Bos taurus indicus) bulls. Bulls (n=4), 30-36 months old, 500-550kg with satisfactory seminal quality were selected. After the centrifugation, samples of the seminal plasma were pooled and the HBPs were isolated by heparin-affinity chromatography. The recovered HBPs fractions were pooled. One-dimensional sodium dodecyl sulphate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDSPAGE) 12.5% was performed in vertical minigels. | Para evaluar el efecto de diferentes relaciones proteína/energía en el crecimiento de juveniles de langosta Panulirus argus (peso medio inicial de 180 ± 3.8 g), se desarrolló un diseño experimental totalmente aleatorizado durante 5 meses, con 7 tratamientos y 16 repeticiones. Se ensayaron dietas con 25, 35 y 45% de proteína, con niveles altos y bajos de energía (324-359 Kcal/100 g) y relaciones proteína/energía entre 70.5 y 137.2 mg de proteína/Kcal.
